ABOUT

In 1991 when Sh. Manmohan Singh Ji became the honourable Finance Minister the Government of India imposed Central Excise duty on Aluminium utensils for the first time. There was a big hue and cry amongst the Aluminium Utensil Manufacturers all over India. Associations of Aluminium Utensils from all parts of India started to write to the Government of India at all levels to remove the newly imposed Central Excise duty on Aluminium Utensils. Months passed but there was no response from the Government. It was then that we decided to form an ALL INDIA body to combat our problem collectively on a bigger platform. The first collective meeting was organised in Richie Rich Hotel, New Delhi. This meeting was attended by thirteen Aluminium Utensil Manufacturers from various corners of India. We had manufacturers from Chennai, Orissa, Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi and Jagadhri. In the meeting it was unanimously agreed that we need a All India body to combat this problem. The Federation was born and named Federation of All India Aluminium Utensil Manufacturers.

WHY CHOOSE ALUMINIUM UTENSILS?

ALUMINIUM IS THE MOST HYGIENIC METAL FOR COOKWARE

The British Medical Journal states that:

“Aluminium is the best metal next to Gold and Platinum for cooking. It is even better than Silver.”

The first question about the safety of Aluminium Cooking utensils surfaced soon after the utensils became available in the year 1890.  Reportedly, many of these questions were raised by people selling utensils made of competing metals.

HISTORY OF ALUMINIUM

Aluminium in its metallic form is comparatively new in human applications. Its source ore, alum, has been known since the 5th century BCE but the first industrial production of the pure Aluminium Metal was initiated by a French chemist Henri Étienne Sainte-Claire Deville in 1856.

At this time its price exceeded that of Gold. Napoleon III of France was greatly fascinated by the new metal and subsidized Deville’s research, which cost about 20 times the annual income of an ordinary family. Prior to the exposition, Napoleon is reputed to have held a banquet where the most honoured guests were given aluminium utensils; the others, less important guests were served in utensils made of Gold.
